Armenia Scraps the Extra e-Visa Conditions for Indian, Iraqi and Egyptian Nationals

On 8 Oct 2026 Armenia's Cabinet scrapped the 2024 extra e-Visa conditions (mandatory travel insurance and other documents) for Indian, Iraqi and Egyptian nationals. What OTAs should update.

Armenia's government decided at its Cabinet session on Thursday 8 October 2026 to cancel the additional requirements for the Armenian electronic visa (e-Visa) that had applied since 2024 to citizens of India, Iraq and Egypt. Those requirements included mandatory travel (health) insurance and several other supporting documents (NEWS.am, 8 Oct 2026).

The government said the extra conditions could get in the way of visa privileges it has granted, in particular the state-duty (visa fee) exemption for foreigners from visa-required countries travelling to Yerevan for COP17, the UN Biodiversity Conference held 19 to 30 October 2026.

What is not yet clear

Exact date of effect. Cabinet decisions normally take effect on official publication. Check the official e-Visa portal (evisa.mfa.am) before telling travelers that insurance and supporting documents are no longer requested.
Exact list of documents removed. Reporting refers to "mandatory travel insurance and several other documents". Until the published text is available, keep collecting documents the portal still asks for.
The standard e-Visa conditions (passport validity, photo, fee unless exempt, permitted entry points) are unchanged by this decision.

We will update this note when the published decision is on the e-Visa portal.

What OTAs and tour operators should do

01

Update Armenia content and requirement rules for Indian, Iraqi and Egyptian passports once the portal reflects the change. Remove "travel insurance mandatory" and the qualifying-visa or residence condition from checklists.

02

Keep selling insurance as an option. Stop presenting it as a visa condition for these nationalities.

03

COP17 traffic (18 to 30 October). Expect delegate and side-event bookings to Yerevan (EVN). Delegates eligible for the COP17 fee exemption still need a visa if their nationality requires one.

04

Re-check pending applications started under the old rules. Travelers may have been asked for documents that are no longer required.

What airlines should do

No change to who needs a visa. Indian, Iraqi and Egyptian ordinary-passport holders still need a valid Armenian visa, or another valid basis such as a qualifying residence permit under Armenia's separate temporary exemption list.
Keep Timatic and station guidance aligned once the official text is published.
