Saudi Arabia ETA for UK Nationals: An Airline and OTA Checklist

GOV.UK and ksavisa.sa split UK travel to Saudi Arabia across an ETA, an e-visa, and an electronic visa waiver, with Hajj on a separate visa. Re-check the SAR 50 fee on ksavisa.sa before quoting it.

UK to Saudi leisure and business inventory now sits on several digital permission products that look similar in a booking engine and behave differently at the gate: an electronic travel authorisation (ETA), an e-visa, and an electronic visa waiver, plus separate Hajj rules and seasonal flight restrictions.

This checklist is for airline OCC and DCS teams and for OTA product managers selling UK passport holders to Saudi Arabia. The rules below are taken from GOV.UK Saudi Arabia entry requirements and the official apply flow on ksavisa.sa. We re-checked both on 2 October 2026.

This article is for operational planning. It is not legal advice and not a traveler guide. Industry write-ups, including Fragomen and Zawya, have described a 1 July 2026 ETA launch for UK nationals. Treat those as industry timelines. For current entry rules, prefer GOV.UK and ksavisa.sa.

Passport baseline

GOV.UK's entry page is written for people travelling on a full British citizen passport. Per that page:

The passport must have an expiry date at least 6 months after the date of arrival in Saudi Arabia.
Entry can be refused with an invalid travel document, or with a passport reported lost or stolen.
GOV.UK notes possible entry issues if the passport shows travel to, or birth in, Israel. Flag it for agent awareness. Do not invent an airline policy from this note.

ETA, e-visa, and electronic visa waiver

Summarised from GOV.UK, verified 2 October 2026. Confirm the live wording before you hard-code a service level.

Product What GOV.UK states Product logic
Electronic travel authorisation (ETA) Tourism, business, study, medical treatment, and Umrah outside Hajj. Valid 730 days from issue. Multiple entries, only 180 days in total across that period. Apply online before travel. No health insurance included. A separate Hajj visa is required for Hajj. Older visas remain valid on their own conditions. Apply-before-travel. Do not tell passengers the ETA includes medical cover.
e-visa Tourist, per GOV.UK. Valid 365 days from issue. Multiple entries, only 90 days in total across that period. Apply online or on arrival at Saudi international airports. Health insurance included up to 100,000 SAR. GOV.UK still advises extra cover for costs beyond that. Hajj needs its own visa. 90 days across 365 is a different stay math from the ETA. The 100,000 SAR figure is an insurance cap, not a visa fee.
Electronic visa waiver Tourism, business, medical treatment, study, and Umrah outside Hajj. Single entry, stay up to 180 days. No health insurance. Apply online at least 48 hours before the flight, or up to 90 days in advance. Flight details are required. The 48-hour floor is the urgency message. Do not invent an airport queue.

Hajj. GOV.UK is explicit: travelling for Hajj requires a separate Hajj visa. Hajj stays on its own visa. Around Hajj, Saudi authorities have stopped non-Hajj visitors flying to Jeddah, Madinah, and Taif. Travelers may need a Hajj visa to board those flights in season, while other airports may remain available. Check with the airline.

Transit. GOV.UK says a transit visa may be needed if the passenger will pass through immigration, leave on a separate ticket, or if the connection is more than 12 hours. Confirm with the airline or travel agency.

Overland. Some visas may allow air entry only. A Bahrain causeway itinerary needs an explicit visa check.

What ksavisa.sa shows for the UK ETA

On the official Electronic Travel Authorization details page, ksavisa.sa stated the following for UK citizens when we fetched it on 2 October 2026:

UK citizens are eligible to apply for the ETA to visit Saudi Arabia.
Activities listed include tourism, business, study, and medical treatment. The ETA is valid for multiple visits. A separate application is required per person, including children.
The ETA cannot be used for work or Hajj.
Apply by filling the form on the KSA VISA platform.
Duration shown as multiple entry, validity 730 days, stay duration 180 days.
Processing time shown as 1 to 3 working days.
Visa fee: 50 Saudi Riyal, non-refundable, as displayed on ksavisa.sa at fetch time. Re-check ksavisa.sa before quoting that fee in UX. If the figure moves, say "check ksavisa.sa" rather than keep a stale number.

No other visa fee is stated in this note. The 100,000 SAR figure above is the e-visa health-insurance cap on GOV.UK.

Airline checklist

UK to Saudi document rules distinguish ETA, e-visa, electronic visa waiver, and Hajj visa. One "Saudi eVisa" flag is too coarse.
Passport validity of at least 6 months from arrival, where your policy aligns with GOV.UK.
Purpose of travel captured when it changes the product: Umrah, Hajj, tourism, or business.
Hajj-season flight restrictions to Jeddah, Madinah, and Taif briefed for non-Hajj passengers.
Transit itineraries over 12 hours, on separate tickets, or passing immigration, flagged for a possible transit visa.
An ETA does not include health insurance. An e-visa includes cover up to 100,000 SAR, per GOV.UK. Do not tell passengers an ETA includes medical cover.
Older visas remain valid on their conditions. Do not force a new ETA where GOV.UK says a prior visa still stands.

OTA checklist

01

Catalogue three digital products with the stay math: 180 days across 730 for the ETA, 90 days across 365 for the e-visa, and a single entry of up to 180 days for the waiver.

02

Match the apply window to the product. ETA before travel. Waiver at least 48 hours before the flight. An e-visa may be applied for at a Saudi international airport, per GOV.UK. Reflect that in urgency copy without inventing queues.

03

One application per person, including children, as ksavisa.sa states for the ETA.

04

Keep Hajj out of ETA attach flows and route it to Hajj visa guidance.

05

Quote SAR 50 only while ksavisa.sa still shows it. Otherwise say "check ksavisa.sa".

06

Alert UK inventory when Saudi permission rules change. The pattern is in coverage alerts.

Kosovo and Guyana joining the tourist e-Visa and visa on arrival is a separate change: Saudi tourist e-Visa for Kosovo and Guyana. For the wider problem of an ETA discovered too late, see ETA travel readiness for airlines and OTAs. For fulfilment and status wiring, see eVisa API for OTAs and airlines. We will update this note if GOV.UK or ksavisa.sa changes the product split or the displayed fee.

If UK to Saudi is growing in the schedule or the catalogue, SimpleVisa can help map ETA, e-visa, and waiver eligibility into booking and manage-my-booking prompts, with Hajj, transit, and leisure kept as separate flags. Book a demo.

This article summarises GOV.UK travel advice and ksavisa.sa service details as fetched on 2 October 2026, for operational planning by travel businesses. It is not legal advice, not Saudi border policy, and not a substitute for airline Timatic or DCS rules, embassy guidance, or counsel. Saudi authorities set and enforce entry rules. Fees, processing times, and product names can change. Re-check GOV.UK and ksavisa.sa before changing production copy. Industry launch dates from Fragomen and Zawya are secondary reporting. Current official rules stay on GOV.UK and ksavisa.sa.
